New Year’s Resolutions

New YearWell, it is a new year. And it means that there will be a new set of resolutions to follow for many people across the world. So what is it this year, weight loss, smoking, or financial obligations? Whatever change it may be, the recognition for change is a great first step towards a better self.

As far as change, what does it mean? What will change or what is it about yourself that needs to change this year? This difference you may crave is not something that will be recognized right away as you look in the mirror on Monday morning. It is not something that you can see right away. Minute by minute you must remember that you are in the process of becoming something different because you want to. Even if you did not make a promise to yourself at the birth of this new year, you would already be very different from yesterday. It’s just that today you may have an added agenda and are more aware of the changes you want to make .

The new guidelines you may choose to follow in this new path to a better self is best done without words. Collectively, it may seem like when we are in the midst of our new journey, we stand on a mountaintop and scream,”Hey world, I am changing!” Now there is the added pressure to change and make everyone take notice of the new self through recognition to change. Let the screaming and vocal promises to others stay inside this year. Let it be the loud voice rising from within your body, waking you from slumber in the morning. It will be the driving force necessary for a continuance to your new “you”. In other words, less talk more action. Yes, I know it sounds harsh, but there is good reason. It is because it will create less performance stress. You will not have the pressure of saying,”Wow, everyone is counting on me to do this.” Or, “I let everyone down.” Vocal goal declarations to family and friends seem inspiring at first, but it is a good way to forget the goal and the most important element of change…you. Your motivation should come from within, not from other people's expectations.

So when you decide on resolutions for the year, put yourself first. Know that you are making a change for a reason. Be happy that you are already different for believing in yourself enough to make the commitment. And if you slip a little, laugh and keep at it. Think of it this way…you’ll have a whole year to perfect it.

Just passing by and wanted to comment. I like the icons/pictures that you integrate into each of your posts. Just things you find or stuff you make? Anyway, looks nice. :) -j.
